Chapter 1-
It was half an hour before three o clock, when my anxious students would be able to go home. Two and half before I got to go home.
Edward and I had lived in Juneau, Alaska for about a year. I worked as a seventh grade English teacher, while Edward was a doctor at the local clinic. His hours werent long, actually, just about half an hour shorter than mine. Our two story, eggshell white house was located just inside the forest, about a mile away from the edge. Edward had gotten a silver Volvo somewhere in Canada; he disliked any other car and missed his old one. I had gotten a deep blue BMW. This type of car had always been my favorite since I was changed, over thirty years ago. But I still looked eighteen, and I always would.
My students were working on the tests I had handed out. Only a few had really been prepared for it, but I still had to give it out, no matter who cared about their grades. My favorite student, Aaron Grimm, had finished long ago, and was reading a book.
There were ten minutes left, and only three quarters of the class had finished. I mentally shook my head, disappointed in the other twenty-five percent who ignored my teachings. I called for them to turn in their papers, anyway. After every paper was turned in and accounted for, I released the students, and they flew out of the classroom.
I sighed and sat down at my desk, working on correcting the tests. After only an hour, the correcting was done, the grades entered into the grade book. I had nothing left to do, and contemplated going home early. No one would care, since none of my students wanted to stay after class. I shut-off my computer and packed my things into the bag I used for my school things.
After I dug my car keys out of the bag, I left the room, locking the door behind me. I passed a few of my friends, other teachers, and the janitor who all wished me a good night, while I returned the wish with a smile that left each male in a short daze, like Edward used to do to me when I had been human, and still did on occasions.
A blizzard was beginning to unfold as I walked through parking lot to my car, unharmed by the sub-zero degree weather. My little BMW was already covered in half an inch of snow when I reached it. I brushed the piled flakes off the car with my hand, and climbed in.
